Winchester Christmas
My Favourite Indie Gifts for the Season
There’s something especially lovely about Winchester at Christmas. The streets feel softer, the evenings glow a little longer, and the independent shops come into their own. It’s the time of year when you can wander slowly, discover things made with real care, and choose gifts that feel thoughtful and personal.
In the studio, this is always one of my favourite seasons. The shelves start to fill with a hand-chosen collection of pieces from makers I admire — all small-batch, all beautifully crafted, and all made with a lot more soul than anything you’ll find in a big online basket.
This year, we have the most gorgeous ceramic hanging decorations, each one hand-painted by a local illustrator. They’re delicate, characterful, and full of charm — the kind of thing you unwrap every December and smile at. Alongside them, of course, is jewellery: pieces by me and by a few of the talented jewellers we stock. Whether it's a pair of understated studs, a textured pendant, or something a little more sculptural, there’s a lovely mix to choose from.
We’ve also brought in some beautiful baskets — natural, tactile, and perfect for gifting (or keeping). And I’m quietly thrilled about the new prints we have in the studio: warm, joyful, and created by artists whose work I truly believe in. They’re such an easy, generous gift for someone who has everything.
If choosing feels a little tricky, or if you want to give someone an experience rather than an object, we have gift vouchers — lovely to tuck into a card — and spaces on our workshops, which always make the most thoughtful presents. There’s something special about gifting someone a few hours to make, learn, and slow down.
So if you’re Christmas shopping this year, do pop by. Buying indie and local really does matter — it keeps makers making and shops like mine thriving — and it means the world to know that the pieces on our shelves are on their way to good homes.
Winchester is full of little treasures at this time of year. I’d love to help you find the perfect one.
