Made Local

For me, being made local isn’t just a phrase. It’s personal.

At 23 Little Minster Street, just off The Square, our shop and studio sit within one of Winchester’s oldest quarters. Narrow medieval streets lead to the Cathedral, timber-framed houses lean towards one another, and the echoes of centuries of making still shape the air. Once, Little Minster Street was home to bakers, tailors, and artisans who supplied the daily life of the Close. Today, I feel proud to continue that tradition, working at the bench where jewellery takes shape in plain sight.

Here, making is not hidden away. The scent of metal warmed under the flame, the soft hiss of solder, the steady rhythm of hammer on silver - these are the sounds of craft at its most human. Each piece begins its journey here in Winchester, carrying with it the heritage of place and the intimacy of something made with care.

For me, being made local isn’t just a phrase. It’s personal. It means knowing the people who wear my jewellery, hearing the stories behind why they choose a ring or necklace, and being able to shape something that becomes part of their lives. It means creating in a way that honours both the materials and the community that surrounds me.

And yet, this small studio is part of something much bigger. Across the world, we’re seeing a cultural return to provenance and place. People are looking for meaning in what they own, moving away from the anonymous speed of mass production to choose objects with traceability, longevity, and soul. In this way, made local jewellery is both timeless and timely - an anchor in a world that often feels unmoored.

When you choose local, you’re not only choosing a piece of jewellery. You’re choosing connection - to the maker, to the city, to a tradition of craft that has always lived in Winchester’s streets. Each piece carries with it a story that is both mine and yours, all here, at 23 Little Minster Street.
